A photographer’s subject is the beginning of his artwork. He must start with reality and mold it into a finished vision through technique and mastery of the medium. The pictorialism movement of early photography embodied this idea, taking photography into the realm of fine art.

This is Pierce’s mindset for “Piercing Skies.” With big blocks of color as the main design element, subtle texture and soft gradations in the water add visual interest and dimension throughout the composition.
