A weather event known as evening glass-off calms the water, and with it, the souls of surfers and watermen. As the sun sets, rough water becomes a polished serene reflection of pink and blue; wave chop turns to picturesque surf. Then, set against the approaching glow of twilight, a beautiful metamorphosis is complete. 

"Silver and Glass" is a top favorite for Pierce. The composition is masterfully divided into thirds. A strong foreground, middleground and background, form a dramatic sense of depth, and lead the eye around the image. The full tonal range is a delicate gradation from black to white. The ocean seems to glow from within, as highlights shape the water's surface.
